Poetry

From early childhood Steve has been an indefatigable recorder of feeling and experience. This would occasionally take the form of songs, but mostly poetry - or something akin to it.

During the early 1990’s he wrote much of a religious nature. However, unaware at that time, Steve’s wings were beginning to spread toward flight away from his lifelong religious commitment. Since then there has been a gradual pull toward universal spirituality - a Taoist kind of existentialism. Like many poets, some of his work is obviously self-exploratory, working through personal issues. However there is also much in Steve's work that bears the mark of the truly transcended soul - rooted in divine universal oneness.

Little of his poetry is a light read; neither is it outwardly observational, such as found in the poetry of Walt Whitman, Steve’s number one wordsmith hero. Rather, Steve’s work bears the stamp of a singular self-observer, with such personal observation and enquiry that penetrates both writer and reader to the core.

Certain pieces of work carry us along with him on a journey out into the unknown - often filled with surprise, sometimes delight, and occasionally disgust. While other work takes us confidently striding well-trodden pathways home. We are led out – we are lead back in. Somehow our own experience enmeshes with that of the writer; we are both with him and with ourselves - simultaneously in his world of coexistent suffering and bliss, while at the same time in our own world of these same polarities in equal measure. He therefore ranks among those rare poets who are able to do this - and he does so with gentleness and grace.

Steve’s poetry is both personal and universal; both sad and filled with joy. Through his innocent transparency, he is able to show us our own world, a world that we come to see as being in perfect balance: – the dark and the light - the fullness of the world and its emptiness - the agony and the ecstasy.

We sincerely hope you will want to delve into the richness of this uniquely personal work, and experience first-hand the depth of a writer whose one overwhelming desire is to take us each by the hand – to lead us there - and back again.

As we expand the website we will be featuring some of Steve's poetry.
